My Inspiration in Books
I have always been a bookworm all my life. Thank you to my older sister, Charisse, who influenced me to snuggle up reading from comics like Archie comics-classic read to books like Harry Potter by JK Rowling and Dan Brown Novels! Ever since then, I have always been reading, and I even use up all the empty spaces of my Borrower’s Card during my elementary years!
Learning the Hard Way
My family hasn’t always been well-off, yes, our financial status fluctuate like a dysfunctional light bulb. During private school, I even use old books from my older cousins and when I was told I’m about to move to a public school, I knew it then, that life gets really hard. I learned how to reuse and recycle my old notebooks by compiling empty pages and threading it together and I even rent out my favorite comic magazines, W.I.T.C.H. (anyone still remembers that?) just to have extra “baon.”
Isay Goes to Schools: A Book Donation Drive and Public School Tour
Let me go straight to the point here, recently, I saw a post on social media about this book donation drive and I thought how in any way I could help. The book drive made me reminisce my life back then and how I could spread the word, that’s why I am writing this. This advocacy gathers individuals, groups, organizations, and companies to raise funds so they can donate copies of “Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay” book, written by Teresa Gumap-as Dumadag, to public schools, public libraries and poor communities around the Philippines.

Teresa Talks about “Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay” book
“I want to inspire and encourage more children, especially those from the marginalized sectors, through this book. I want to encourage them to dream and to be brave enough to dream big. I want them to know that dreams can come true with a lot of hard work and grace from God. I know this is possible because I personally experienced it,” Teresa shared.
What inspired Teresa to write the book
The book was inspired by her experience during her elementary years which highlights that it is more important to get an education than to have brand new things for school, aside from encouraging the readers/students to reuse and recycle. “This advocacy is my way of paying it forward and my way of helping mold the character of the next generation of Filipinos,” she added. The book is written both in Filipino and English copies.
