My All-time Favorite Movies and Series
Now that we’re living day and night in our own homes, I thought, okay, I’ll round up a list of what I like that you may like to watch too! The shows here are mostly of which I’ve grown up with and the recent shows that I’ve discovered. So, here’s my all-time favorite movies and series, this is going to be a long list!
Mara Wilson was a child wonder! Watching this when I was younger, I just wished that I have the same powers as hers. Ugh, and that chocolate cake in one scene, been craving for it until now. Please watch this classic!
2. Freaky Friday
This movie with Jamie Curtis and Lindsay Lohan was so hilarious. Yup, the mother-daughter issues. I can certainly relate to this movie during my early teenage years.
Again, the original one with the one and only Robin Williams. Best Jumanji movie ever for me. So far *wink wink.
1. Step Up
I love to dance, okay? I took ballet and hip-hop classes so, I must really love these Step Up movies. BTW, just so you know, Channing Tatum first performed here. Another notable actor is the one playing “Moose” (Adam Sevani) and he is so hot. LOL.
2. Bring it On 1, 3, 4
Specifically handpicked these! The famous “spirit fingers” with Kirsten Dunst and the rest of the cool cast. The 3rd one starring Hayden Panettiere, ha-ha-shabooya! The 4th Bring it On: In it to Win It with Ashley Benson is my best pick. Watch and see how “The Shets” danced! I am a frustrated cheerleader. I once joined the pep squad but I was just afraid of heights and I quit. I also realized that I had to focus on my studies in college. (LOL, Rae, you just scaredooo!)
Tasteful. Glam. Aspirational. Christina Aguilera, Kristen Bell, Cher– I love you.
4. Pitch Perfect
Fusion of crazy acapella and dancing, chasing dreams and all that jazz. Ha!
5. Save the Last Dance
The one the starred by Julia Stiles, of course!
The movie that made me want to dance even more because of Jessica Alba.
1. Transformers 1 and 2/ Bumblebee
Shia Labeouf, my childhood crush (you’ll read about it more later!) and Megan Fox, and of course, Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots. Ugh, I just love these movies. Counting in, Bumblebee, lead by Hailee Steinfeld.
2. Kingsman The Secret Service/The Golden Circle.
Three-piece suit, wide peak lapel, double vent, single vent, double-breasted, single-breasted suits, chalk-striped suits and so on. Not to brag but I used to work for a bespoke tailor (partly until now) and I just know what a good suit looks/feels like and hey, the agents, the story, the action. Super jam-packed! I really have to work on my adjectives now. Haha sorry.
This new storyline about Rapunzel brings me back to what kind of fairytale I wish I had during my younger years. May I just say, I just love, love, love the song here when she’s finally under the lanterns.
4. Zombieland/ Zombieland Double Tap
Dude, I mean, come on. Isn’t this “soy awesome”? hahahahah
5. The Craft
Who knows, there’s such a thing as white witch and dark witch? hahaha my childhood is ruined. Kidding.
Srlsy, who doesn’t? I can’t wait for the live-action movie, with or without Wushu!
1. What If
I watched this movie too many times! “What’s shakin’ hot pants?” Girl, watch this! Watch a little grown-up Daniel Radcliffe here!
2. You’ve Got Mail
My my, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks! This one’s another classic for me. When I watch them write to each other, I feel like writing even more. Plus, I also miss long conversations (yes, paragraph by paragraphs) even through email or text.
3. The Lakehouse
This one is really moving, I kinda cried , too. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock tandem! Need I say more?
4. Letters to Juliet
A tour around Verona, Tuscany and the simple, straightforward story but gave me butterflies in my stomach. By now, you should know that I love long-hand letters.
5. Ugly Truth
Funny and a lot of man-woman relationship realizations. lol. Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl, didn’t expect that tandem!
The movie where I met, Paul Rudd. Ugh— as if?!
7. 10 Things I Hate About You
Heath Ledger, I still dream of you.
I’ll leave you with this:
Katarina Stratford: “I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”
8. Easy A
This is when my fandom for Emma Stone got so deep. Just so you know, I tried to dress like her in college except the corset and “A”! I even dyed my hair red too many times but I just can’t achieve it. LOL. Then Emma Stone became Gwen in The Amazing Spiderman, they broke my heart. Okay, the list continues…
9. What a Girl Wants
I think this is the movie debut of Amanda Bynes after Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show. I cannot forget Oliver James line there, “Why try to fit in when you’re born to stand out?”
10. She’s the Man
I watched a lot of Amanda Bynes before, okay? She’s playing soccer here and believe me when I tried playing soccer too! The plot? well, she dressed/acted like a guy (her brother) to beat her school’s soccer team because the girl’s team got canceled to play. This is a hilarious movie! Plus, Channing Tatum is here!!
11. The Breakfast Club
Don’t you forget about me! Sorry, is this rom-com? It’s original highschool flick, right? I first watched this during my Film Criticism class in college after then, I kept watching this over and over.
Please watch this so you would know the relevance of Baskin Robbins! hahahah! Paul Rudd, I couldn’t think of any other Antman!
2. Dr. Strange
Master the mystical arts in this movie. Teach me!
Aside from Jason Momoa’s hot bod, I was overly amazed at the lush and generous scenes they poured into this movie. My fave scene must be at Sicily, Italy. The story, casting, surprise surprise, Nicole Kidman in the house!
Okay, Gal Gadot already got me at Fast and the Furious but as Wonderwoman?? She’s completely wonderful! I can’t wait for more movies of her!
5. Batman Returns 1992
Dear DC and Batman geeks, I apologize that this is the only Batman I really liked. Let’s wait for how Robert Pattinson would play a Batman role! Just a side note, the sneak peek of him in his suit gave me Daredevil vibes. Whoops!
6. Black Panther
Please, if you don’t like this, I would nonchalantly say, “What are thoooooose?”
7. Elektra (2005)
I didn’t know that Jennifer Garner can play this role. I like this, really, and I am not convincing myself. (Although, I prefer the Elektra in Daredevil series).
8. Rurouni Kenshin
Amakikiro riyuno hiramekiiiiii! (I rly don’t know if I spelled that correctly) This live-action movie of Samurai X is well-thought, cast were perfect too. The portrayal of the battousai, Kaouru, everyone, they all did a great job! The fight scenes are truly exceptional. I can’t wait for the Final Chapter coming this July!
1. Harry Potter Movies
We pretty all grew up with this, right? The Harry Potter fandom lives on!
2. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Epic war scenes! Uhm, I almost had archery lessons. LOL
3. To All the Boys I Loved Before
Whoah whoah whoah whoah! Have you, or have you not watched this yet? A Netflix original movie inspired by the hit New York Time’s Bestselling book by Jenny Hann grabbed my attention because of its noise on social media! Some of my friends have been reading this book before, I tried it once but it didn’t pique my interest. However, when it was interpreted into a movie, I am already hooked!
1. Samurai X
Number one spot in my Anime list! Yes, I could not explain how much of a fan I am with this anime. My sister got me into this and I am not blaming her.
I’m just gonna share one of the theme songs, in which, my sister and I know some of its English translation and pretty much memorized the lyrics, in Japanese language.
2. Cardcaptor Sakura
I got posters of her in my sister’s room, never to be removed.
3. Slam Dunk
The Filipino language dub made this show extra funny. Tataaaang!
4. Hey Arnold
Football head and that unibrow girl and the rest of the gang! hahahha love this!
These crazy babies! ahahhaha
1. Lizzie Mcquire
The rise of Hilary Duff on our TV screens! I also like the animated version of Lizzie, kinda her conscience. I love the story of friendship, family, some puppy love and well, basically, being a teenager.
2. Even Stevens
Well, I just couldn’t forget where I had an instant crush at Shia LaBeouf. I love his humor in this series. I love the script, really funny, and did you know there’s a movie too just like Lizzie’s?
Here are some episodes from Season 1-3, you’re welcome!
3. That’s So Raven
Raven Symone, one of The Cheetah Girls, is a teenage girl who can see visions of the future. So many laugh trips in this series as well. They made a new series on Disney Life and the characters are all grown up, however, I didn’t much like it already.
If you’re still looking for a series to watch, please consider these, even I didn’t read the comics but I really loved all of it! Although these series ended, I do hope that the characters would show up at Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Hello, MCU, please give them a chance!
Charlie Coxx forever! Leaving a fight scene that never left my brain (srlsy though):
2. Jessica Jones
“Main Street, Birch Street, Higgins Drive, “Cobalt Lane…”
Who knows? That best friend from Confessions of a Shopaholic would have a series of her own? Krysten Ritter and Rachel Taylor made promising roles.
3. Iron Fist
So naive yet so powerful, Danny. Also, Jessica Stroup from Beverly Hills 90210, who would’ve thought?! More about Iron Fist in my previous blog HERE.
4. Luke Cage
Story of politics, drama, action, quite a handful, actually. I mentioned this in one of my monthly favorites a few years ago, check it out HERE.
They summed up Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones here. That Midland center finale was just epic.
A lighter series from Marvel. So there’s a cult here of messed up parents and their kids started to run away! I wrote about this series in my August 2018 monthly favorites.
7. Cloak & Dagger
Black and White, “Yin- Yang” vibe, voodoo tales, ancient stuff, dark and bright side. Ugh, the juxtapositions from this movie were endless. Also included in one of my monthly favorites.
He showed up in Daredevil first then Frank Castle finally had his own series! A more in-depth story about him and him being a not-so-hero ish character. Also, you must know that your pretty boy Prince Caspian from Narnia is the antagonist here. Hi, Jigsaw!
I mentioned Punisher in one of my monthly favorites, check it out here.
TV Drama-Chic flicks
1. Gossip Girl
Hey, upper east siders, this is about Love, Family, Sex, Scheming. All those high school to college stuff, relate? What more can I say about this? Three words, eight letters, say it, and I am yours!
2. Pretty Litte Liars
There is a reason why this lasted so many seasons, too and won a lot of awards as well. The ending? I don’t hate it. Team Spencer! Troian Bellisario certainly outdid what I expected from her.
3. Big Bang Theory
Aaaahh the twisted lives of these scientists, engineer, and the girl next door. This fam, pretty made my college to work life more fun! While they made us laugh for so many years, during the ending, of course, it made us cry, right? Hard!
Only up until Megan Markle played a role. I already stopped watching when Katherine Heigl came into picture, not that I don’t like her but maybe I got tired of it? Listing this here as I really watched the first few seasons again.
1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer
My sister and I used to fight with our parents about this. We only have one television in the dining room back then, parents would watch their worn-out “teleseryes” while eating at the same time as this TV show aired!
Believe me, I really wanted to be their sister, too!
3. Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Not the latest one, but I like that too, okay? This classic by Melissa Joan Hart with the talking Salem is unforgettable
This is the book adaptation written by Cassandra Clare, the new queen of fantasy.
I wrote a blog about this: My Thoughts on Shadowhunters’ Finale
5. Locke & Key
I am so looking forward to the next season of this! I like the idea about the magical keys!
I actually can’t narrow it down to 10 movies only or 10 series, etc. I am pretty sure I missed some movies and series to mention here. So there you go! My all-time favorite movies and series. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!
