Celebrating My Birthday During The Pandemic

My Ideal Birthday

Beach, booze, bucks. Those are my ideal birthday needs for this year but since we’re having this sh*t called a pandemic, everything changed. The world suddenly paused and I am a bit close to losing it. Well, I need to keep going, every waking day, I try to think of the word; BLESSED. I mean, can I just babble this gratefulness whim despite this effin’ global pandemic? Hello to my somewhat less filtered blog about celebrating my birthday during the pandemic. Thank you if you’re still reading.

That POINT

The movie X-men First Class keeps playing on HBO recently and this quote of Professor Charles Xavier got stuck in my head. I don’t know, maybe it just hit me with what I am feeling right now because of this pandemic (and yes and all the other friggin’ world issues, yes, I know). He enlightened Erik during their training, “The point between rage and serenity.” That’s it, that’s the quote! We may have our own interpretations of this quote. Why don’t you read it again and again, we may be on the same page. My point? I just don’t want to fall into a blackhole especially during my birthday. Can I just be happy or be somewhere at that point between rage and serenity?

The Planned Birthday Bash

My birthday bash was plain and simple; to spend my birthday with the complete family. We’re supposed to do that on my birthday, by the beach. I was kind of expecting that it wouldn’t happen as the number of COVID-19 cases grows each day. But what can we do? Sh*t happens, and are we going to roll into that sh*t? No. Gosh, please no. So, we move on, I move on.

Birthday Preps

I got to my relative’s house the day before my birthday to get my Baked Sushi made by my aunt. I shamelessly told them that it is my birthday the next day as I am so yearning for a personal birthday greeting. I know, is that too shallow? I was grateful to see their smiles, hopeful eyes, and warm greetings. Like it’s the warmest greeting of all greetings. That’s how it felt. My eyes are watery, and I couldn’t even hug them most especially the kids, my Godson, and my little cousin. So, I left them with my heart so full with a bag of gold—I mean Baked Sushi.

Holiday Food

Mama was preparing the food for my birthday the night before I turn a year older. Mama and dad are both cooking my favorite Chicken Potato Cream. I swear that it is only being cooked during the holidays! My request, shrimp pesto pasta also cooked by daddy! So, I got so ecstatic about my birthday lunch! I also ordered a cake from Everything Nice and it was a smooth transaction, delivered at our doorstep.

On the day of my birthday, I still worked out in the morning. The daily grind as usual. If you’re following me on my social media pages, I uploaded photos of me with my cake and baked sushi. Notice that I dressed up and worn makeup because why not? Can I not look cute in front of the blessings on our dining table? My family, my sister on the phone as she’s miles away, the food prepared in front of us just to look like “mairaos lang tong kaarawan.” I devoured my favorite dishes, I usually do this every year with my family. As a community manager or (also known as social media manager), I also worked in between and in the evening for my foreign boss. I am truly fulfilled and still blessed even the world got f*cked up. Can I please say I am blessed? Now is the time to notice the small details in life! LOL, I mean, the world’s always been f*cked up, it’s up to us how we run with it.

Well, it’s quite easy to prep kasi as it is just layered sa lalagyanan. Has to be baked para mag dikit talaga lahat ng ingredients. Masarap naman, depende sa feeling 🙂 parang california maki ung akin. 🙂

Happy birthday, Rae. It is not an ideal birthday celebration but what matters is you are healthy and blessed to be with your loved ones. When this pandemic is over, go and do that late birthday travel of yours.

Happy Birthday girl!!! I had so much fun reading this and I totally relate to your anger and frustration. Things are a mess right now and I just can’t even. Hahaha my bday’s coming up too and I’d normally be blacking out drunk with friends, but hey I’ll just sleep. Hahaha

It’s okay. Just what I have said, the mere celebration of your birthday this year is a blessing in itself. Let us just hope that everything would be fine next year so you could welcome another year (in your life) with a bang! Belated happy birthday!
